Privacy Policy

My Star Mate

Last updated: September 18, 2026

The short version

  • We collect what the app needs to build your chart and introduce you to people: your account details, your profile, your birth date, time and place, your photos, and what you post or send.
  • Your astrology is computed on your device, not on a server. The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no AI service. The only servers it talks to are our own, hosted by Supabase, and Apple's, for sign-in, purchases and notifications.
  • We never ask for your device's location. The only location we hold is the city you type in yourself.
  • We do not sell your personal information, we do not share it for advertising, and we show no ads.
  • You can delete your account from inside the app. Deletion is real and immediate: it removes your profile, photos, messages, posts, likes, matches, blocks, reports and support history.
  • Questions, requests, or anything else: mystarmate@mystarmate-support.com

1. Who we are

My Star Mate ("we", "us", "the app") is an astrology-based social and dating app for adults. We are the data controller for the information described here.

Contact for any privacy question or request: mystarmate@mystarmate-support.com

Postal address: 1429 Park St, Hartford, CT 06106

2. What we collect, and why

We only collect what a feature actually needs. Everything below is either something you typed in, something you chose to upload, or a direct record of an action you took in the app.

Account information

Your email address, and a password that is stored only as a cryptographic hash by our authentication provider. We never see or store your password in readable form.

If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive the name and the email address Apple releases to us. If you choose Apple's private relay address, that relay address is all we ever hold.

Why: to create your account, sign you in, recover access, and contact you about your account. Legal basis (EEA/UK): performance of our contract with you.

Your profile

Display name, age, pronouns, gender, who you are looking for, age range and distance preferences, bio, interests, prompt answers, relationship intent, astrology experience, lifestyle answers (drinking, smoking, cannabis, children), the name you use for numerology, and your visual profile settings such as photo order, captions and avatar colour.

Why: to build the profile other members see and to decide who you are shown to. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you. Optional fields are provided by your own choice, and you can clear them at any time.

Your birth data

Your birth date, your birth time and whether you know it, your birth place name, its latitude and longitude, and its time zone offset.

Why: this is what the app is for. These values are the input to your natal chart, your transits, and every compatibility reading. What other members see is the resulting chart: your signs, placements and the geometry between your chart and theirs. Nothing in the app ever displays your birth time or your birth coordinates to another member.

How this travels, stated plainly. Every chart is computed on the device that displays it. So when another member opens your profile, the birth values behind your chart are sent to their copy of the app in order to be computed there. Their app never shows those values to them, and there is no screen in the app that reveals them. We describe it anyway, because a privacy policy should say what happens rather than only what is visible.

Legal basis: performance of our contract with you, and your explicit consent where this could be taken to reveal a philosophical belief. See section 3.

Location

The name of the city you enter as your current location, and the latitude and longitude of that city.

We never read your device's location. The app contains no location permission and no location manager. It has no ability to read GPS, and iOS will never show you a location prompt from us. Distance between members is calculated from the city you typed, and if you leave it blank we fall back to your birth city.

Why: to show distance and to let you filter by it. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.

Photos

The photos you add, up to eight. They are stored in a private storage bucket in a folder keyed to your account, readable by signed-in members of the app and by nobody else.

Why: so the people who see your profile can see you. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.

What you post and send

Your posts, replies, reposts, likes, tags, and your private messages. Your likes, passes, matches, friendships and the accounts you hide.

Why: to operate the feed, the matching system and your conversations. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.

Safety records

When you block someone we store that you blocked them. When you report someone we store who reported whom and the reason given.

Why: to enforce blocks and to act on reports. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping members safe, and our legal obligations.

Support messages

If you write to us from Settings, we store your message, its subject, and your account id.

Why: to answer you. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you and our legitimate interest in supporting the service.

Device and notification data

If you turn on notifications we store your device's Apple push token and the platform it belongs to.

Why: to deliver the notifications you asked for. Legal basis: your consent, given through the iOS notification prompt and withdrawable in iOS Settings at any time.

Purchases

Whether you hold an active Cosmic subscription, and how many Flash Boosts and Constellation Scans are in your wallet.

Apple processes every payment. We never receive your card number, your billing address, or any other payment detail. We see only whether a purchase succeeded.

Why: to unlock what you paid for, and to restore it if you reinstall. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.

Your settings

Notification preferences, app language, house system, and your visibility choices.

Why: so the app behaves the way you set it. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.

Information that stays on your device

Some things you enter never reach us at all.

If you fill in a phone number under Settings, it is saved on your iPhone and nowhere else. We do not upload it, we cannot see it, and it is gone when you delete the app.

The app also keeps local working copies on your device so it can open quickly and keep computing without a connection: a cached copy of your own profile, your boost and scan wallet, and the results of a Constellation Scan you paid for. Deleting the app removes them.

Information we derive

Your natal chart, your planetary placements, compatibility scores between you and other members, and the written readings that explain them. These are computed from the birth data you gave us. Your placements are also stored so the Compass can search by them.

Why: these are the app's core features. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.

3. Sensitive information, handled deliberately

Two kinds of information here deserve their own paragraph rather than a line in a table.

Your gender and who you are looking for. Taken together, these can reveal sexual orientation, which the GDPR treats as a special category of personal data. We process them because a dating app cannot introduce you to anyone without them. Where that legal framework applies, we rely on your explicit consent, which you give by completing your profile and can withdraw by clearing those fields or deleting your account.

Your birth data and astrological readings. Interest in astrology could be read as a philosophical belief, which the GDPR also treats as a special category. We take the careful route and rely on your explicit consent for this too, given when you enter your birth details and withdrawable by deleting your account.

Under California law, information that reveals sexual orientation is "sensitive personal information". We use it only to provide the service you asked for, which is a use California law permits without an opt-out, and we never use it to infer characteristics about you for any other purpose.

4. What we never do

These are not aspirations. They are verifiable facts about the code:

  • No advertising. No ad network, no ad identifier, no IDFA.
  • No tracking across other apps or websites. The app contains no App Tracking Transparency prompt because it has nothing to ask you for.
  • No analytics SDK. There is no Firebase, no Amplitude, no Mixpanel, no crash-reporting SDK. The app ships with exactly one third-party package, the Supabase client that talks to our own database.
  • No sale or sharing of personal information, as those terms are defined by California and other US state privacy laws. We have never sold personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
  • No AI or language model. Every word of interpretation in the app was written by a person in advance and is selected by computed geometry. Your chart is never sent to an AI service, because the app never contacts one.
  • No device location. See section 2.

5. Where your astrology happens

The entire astronomical engine runs on your iPhone. Your natal chart, your transits, your daily reading and every compatibility calculation are computed locally from an ephemeris built into the app.

You can verify this yourself in about ten seconds: with the app open, turn on Airplane Mode. Your chart, your transits and your readings keep working.

The network is used for the social half of the app only: signing in, loading profiles, sending messages, and syncing what you post.

6. Who can see your information

Other members see your display name, age, photos, bio, interests, prompt answers, the profile details you filled in, your city, and the astrological signature and readings derived from your chart. They never see your email address, and no screen in the app shows them your birth time or your birth coordinates. See the note in section 2 on how chart computation works.

We can access the data in our database in order to run the service, investigate reports, and answer support requests.

Our service providers process data on our behalf and only on our instructions. See section 7.

Nobody else, unless we are required to disclose information by law, or need to in order to protect someone's safety or defend a legal claim.

7. Service providers and international transfers

We keep the list short on purpose.

Supabase hosts our database, our authentication, and our photo storage, and delivers push notifications on our behalf. Supabase processes this data as our processor under a data processing agreement.

Apple provides Sign in with Apple, delivers push notifications through the Apple Push Notification service, and processes all purchases and subscriptions. Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.

Depending on the region we have configured and where these providers operate, your information may be transferred to and stored in a country other than your own, including the United States. Where we transfer personal data out of the EEA or the UK, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum.

Push notifications pass through Apple's servers to reach your device. A notification about social activity contains the first name of the person and the type of event. A message notification contains the sender's first name and the text of the message. If you would rather not have message text appear on your lock screen, you can turn previews off in iOS Settings.

8. How long we keep information

We keep your information for as long as your account exists.

  • Account, profile, birth data, photos, posts, messages, matches and settings: until you delete your account.
  • Support messages: until you delete your account.
  • Safety records (blocks and reports): until you delete your account. Reports you filed about other people are also removed at that point, so if you have reported someone we encourage you to let us know before you leave.
  • Backups: our hosting provider keeps automated backups for a short rolling window, so deleted data can persist in an encrypted backup for a limited period before it ages out.
  • Apple's records of your purchase are held by Apple under Apple's policies, not ours.

9. Deleting your account

Settings, then Account, then Delete account.

Deletion is performed by a server-side function with administrator rights. It removes your photo folder from storage and then deletes your authentication record, which cascades through every table that references you: your profile, your photo records, likes, matches, messages, friendships, blocks, reports, posts, replies, reposts, tags, the accounts you hid, your settings, your notification history, your device tokens, your purchase credits and your support messages.

Two consequences worth stating plainly:

  • Messages you sent disappear from the other person's conversation too. Your side of a thread is not preserved once your account is gone.
  • Deleting your account does not cancel your Apple subscription. Apple owns that billing relationship. Cancel it in iOS Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions.

Deletion is permanent. We cannot restore an account or its contents afterwards.

10. Your choices in the app

  • Edit or clear any profile field, at any time, from your profile.
  • Turn notifications on or off per category in Settings, or entirely in iOS Settings.
  • Block or report any member from their profile.
  • Hide your profile from discovery using the visibility settings.
  • Change your email address or password in Settings.
  • Delete your account, as above.

11. Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, or delete it. Write to mystarmate@mystarmate-support.com and we will respond within 30 days.

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict or object to how we process it, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw any consent you have given, without that affecting what we did before you withdrew it. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

If you are in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to access and receive a copy of it, to correct it, to delete it, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of, and we use sensitive personal information only to provide the service you asked for. We will never discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. The categories we collect, in the language of the statute, are: identifiers, customer records, protected classifications (age, gender), commercial information (your purchases), internet or app activity, geolocation at city level, audio-visual information (your photos), sensitive personal information (information that may reveal sexual orientation), and inferences (your chart-derived compatibility results). We collect all of it directly from you or from your use of the app.

If you are in another US state with a privacy law, such as Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon or Montana, you have comparable rights of access, correction, deletion, portability and appeal. Use the same address.

You may authorise an agent to make a request for you. We will ask for proof that you authorised them, and we may need to verify your identity before we act, which normally means writing from the email address on the account.

12. Security

Your data travels over encrypted connections and is encrypted at rest by our hosting provider. Access to the database is governed by row-level security policies, so an authenticated member's client can reach only their own records and the records they are permitted to see. Photos live in a private bucket where write access is scoped to your own folder. Passwords are stored only as hashes, by our authentication provider, and are never visible to us.

No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. If a breach ever affects your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.

13. Age requirement

My Star Mate is for adults aged 18 and over. The app checks your date of birth during sign-up and will not create an account for anyone under 18.

We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a minor has an account, write to mystarmate@mystarmate-support.com and we will remove it.

14. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for any change that materially affects your rights we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.

15. Contact
